We believe that film can be a powerful educational tool for all ages - as well as being a valuable cultural experience in itself, watching a film can expand our experiences and understanding and helping us to explore concepts and ideas that are new or challenging to us.
The Picturehouse Education team work closely with teachers, film festivals and partner organisations to deliver a diverse and exciting year-round programme at Picturehouse cinemas across the UK. We welcome over 40,000 people each year to our screenings and events, specially curated for Nursery, Primary, Secondary and SEN/ASN Schools and for adult learners.
Our schools' programme is aimed at EYFS and Key Stages 1-5 (P1-7 & S1-5 in Scotland) and includes regular screenings for Children's Centres and Autism Friendly screenings. We carefully curate cross-curricular screenings and talks throughout the year and also offer low-cost 'treat' screenings in the lead up to school holidays and to celebrate the end of SATS.
Where possible, supporting teaching resources, introductions and/or post-film discussions are also provided.
At a number of our cinemas (where we have a dedicated learning space), we hold regular courses for adult learners. These cover a wide range of topics and areas of interest, from practical workshops in screenwriting and directing to film theory courses exploring subjects such as masculinity, auteur theory, psychoanalysis on film and clowning.

Terms And Conditions for School Screenings
Here at Picturehouses Cinemas Ltd, we take your privacy seriously and will only use your personal information to administer your account and to provide the products and services your have requested from us.
How will we use information about you?
We will process your order and follow up with expected invoices where required. If you have opted in to receive our schools' newsletters, you will be added to our mailing list to received email updates about our schools' programme.
We do not pass data on to any third parties.
What information do we collect from you?
We will only collect information required to process and administer your service. These include, contact names, addresses, telephone numbers, emails and any pertinent information required to administer this service, and is always requested directly from you with your consent.

Where can I find out about the Picturehouse Education Programme/what can we watch?
You can browse our programme of screenings and talks for Primary Schools and Secondary Schools & Colleges on this website. If you sign up for our newsletter, we will keep you updated about our programme throughout the year.
We are also able to arrange a screening of a film of your choice - old or new (as long as it has been out in the cinema for at least 8 weeks) - on a weekday morning. Find out more about organising a private hire for your students in our 'How To Make A Booking' section.
How do I request a booking?
Please use this form to submit your details, and we'll be in touch to arrange your visit. Please allow up to two working days for us to respond.
Can we bring our own snacks?
We regret that no outside food or drink (apart from bottled water) is permitted in our cinemas. We are able to arrange a squash and popcorn combo for £1.80 each for private screenings and End Of Term Treats (we tend not to offer snacks for events with a speaker to minimise distractions).
How can I pay?
School groups will need to pay for their cinema trip on the day of their visit by cheque/card/cash. When we confirm your booking, we will raise an invoice and send it to you to enable you to raise the payment - please let us know at the time of booking if you will need a purchase order included on the invoice. We apologise that we no longer take BACS payment and we cannot take payments over the phone.
How long does it take to make a booking?
We require a minimum of 10 working days to arrange schools' screenings. This gives us enough time to book the film from the distributor, arrange for a slot within the cinema programme, schedule staff to run the event and complete the administration such as raising your invoice.
What time of day can school groups watch a film?
We are able to arrange private screenings for school and community groups starting between 9.30am and 10.30am, Mon-Fri (subject to availability). Unfortunately, we are unable to organise private screenings later in the day or on weekends as this is when we have our public screenings.
Are there age restrictions on certain films?
Yes, the BBFC give an age certificate to every film released in the UK. We are unable to screen any films to under-age students, even for private screenings.
Is there wheelchair access?
Yes, we have wheelchair access in all of our cinemas. Please let us know your access needs when making your initial enquiry so we can allocate a wheelchair space for you and ensure we programme the event into the most accessible screen.
